I think the critique is not that he's relatable, it is that it is manufactured, and he doesn't show the "true" him, and bare his soul, the way say Nas, DMX or Pac did....because not everyone is going to relate to 85% of the content on "Slippin" or "Dear Mama", or "My Way" the way I might....which is what made rap different....the music was for certain people, and the rest could listen, but not really "hear", because of the edges and rawness....
Not to mention the ghostwriting and song shopping
What someone like Drake does is smooth out all the edges, for a wider (whiter) demographic, so you are left with really great sounding pop music, that is shallow and superficial and inauthentic.....
