Is it me or drake hasn't changed his subject matter?

Which is what I've realized for years now. look at one of the current best rappers alive...look at all the topics/concepts they touched then look at drakes 7 year run. He's stuck in this box of like 3 ideas he can juggle on a record. shyt is pathetic. You're a rapper that considers himself one of the best out...do better. There's so many ways I can hear this nikka rap about the girl that did him a certain way or him n his boys having some wild night...pause. Do better with ya pen.

This is a existential debate but don't you listen to an artist for them to be that artist?

Why would you want Drake to make songs about something other than what he is the best at doing?

This criticism could be lobbed at anyone you listen to and it makes no sense

Gonna listen to it this morning. Hopefully it's good. I'm more of a fan of NWTS/IYRTITL Drake but anyone can you it wasn't gonna be like that. So no one should be mad about that.

I know yall want to hate this nikka but on first listen this might be his best album :ehh:

No Q Miller influence, Drake's back to being Drake, It's a Drake album, a GOOD Drake album :manny: Complete with lazy & boring R&B tracks, club bangers, rappity rap, emo rap, fire production, great melodies, lazy melodies, great moments, corny moments, old flows, new flows, same subject matter, same out come; Good, not good enough to be a classic and solidify Drake as the calibre of artist he's praised to be, but good enough to maintain a distant lead on the competition.
on second listen this definitely ain't gonna be the album that marks Drake's fall off. :manny: Sorry coli

if you missed it earlier, listen to Drake & Zane Lowe's hour-long interview on Beats 1.

In case you missed it, Drake & Zane Lowe were originally supposed to kick off Thursday night’s #VIEWS festivities by sitting down for a “major” interview on OVO Sound Radio Ep. 20 at 10:45 PM EST, where Drizzy would premiere his new album for the first live on air, before making it live on iTunes following the show at midnight. Unfortunately, that plan wasn’t executed too well, and the show was almost a half-hour late to start, causing fans to grow impatiently restless. So during which time, Apple decided to turn the tables around and roll out the album first on iTunes instead, resulting with most fans jumping right over to the album stream and leaving the Zane Lowe interview.

However, once Drake & Zane Lowe did start the interview, it was well worth the wait. Chopping it up for over an hour, the 6 God & Zane talked about the creative process of VIEWS, why he left Kanye & Jay off the album, production, making a cohesive body of work, inspiration for the album, and a shyt ton more. He even talked about his relationship with Kanye West, and spilled the beans that the two were supposed to do a project together.

“We live up the street from each other. I’ll pull up at his house and see what he’s doing. We’ll just sit and collaborate, that’s what music is all about. ‘Ye is one of my favorite people. Period. In the world man. I love ‘Ye. I grew up with him [Kanye] as a role model, he is part of the reason I am here right now.”

“We were supposed to do a mixtape together or an album together.” - Drake says about Kanye

In addition, Drake also talked about having plenty more music coming out this Summer, Tory Lanez beef, Lil Wayne & Birdmansituation, Young Money, and his current relationship with Nicki Minaj, which he said is non-existent at this point in time.

"I don’t really talk to Nicki. Another person I have a lot of love for ... She dealt with me how I would expect her to -- with class. I always have respect and love for her. Unfortunately, we haven’t spoke."

If you happened to miss the interview earlier, I highly recommend checking out the full thing (below).

Just gave it a listen. I decided to put the ghostwriting shyt to the side and listen to it for what it was...

...and this album is mad average at best.

It's like someone said earlier: if you've heard his previous albums, this is nothing new. Same old, same old. Not only that, but the best parts of the album are not even from him.

-Summer Interlude: don't know who's singing it, but she was dope.

-Future completely outshined Drake on Grammys, and this is nowhere close to Future's best verse.

There are some good songs in this: Views, Weston Road Flow. Problem is, Drake is using the same damn flows that we have heard before. Nothing new on that front. He is also talking about the same shyt in the same way, except with a different beat. There's nothing new or exceptional.

Some songs had pretty good beats, but Drake was very underwhelming on it, like on "9" and Hype for example, resulting in wasted opportunities.

Lastly, there's a lot of singing in this album. Problem is, Drake is not a good singer, and he's singing about (once again) the same shyt in almost the same way as before. Nothing new on that front.

Overall, 3/5 at best, and that's really due to the production, which was good.

This album may sell well, but overall, this wasn't a good project. Drake is not that good of a singer and the bars he was spitting were either aight (or wack in some cases) or shyt we've heard before many times over. Once you add the ghostwriting shyt into consideration, Drake loses a lot of value, imho.
