It really isn't surprising though.....these younger bruh's are easily impressed by mediocrity....and sub par bullshyt....
Ive listened to it three times thus far and half way through the third time I went back and played IYRTITL to see if I was crazy.. I hope it grows on me but I just dont see that happening. Shame

word, i notice alot of younger heads hyping this album up alot. this year hasn't been that great IMO, too much mediocrity being hyped up as "great" music
I work at a University and all the kids have been coming up to me " What do you think, what do you think".. It had such buzz and going to do great numbers, but people want it to be good so badly that they are trying to make it something it is not.

it's the same way with Kendrick......I don't understand how niccas who have confirmed they don't like Drake can sit through an album and review it. It's like me trying to sit through an Iggy album. Will never happen because I know I don't like the shyt for sure. They like dude on the low or some shyt?
I can understand if you like some Drake and dislike some. But some straight up hate the music and still take their time. Crazy to me

I think this needs to be said, and it's been a glaring weakness of his for a while now and I'm saying this as a fan, or something of one.
He is really not a great rapper. I think it's clear why he didn't make it JUST rapping like Kendrick or Big Sean, or Cole, or Meek. And before someone says "Big Sean and Cole Sing
" let me be clear, they are not singers. They rarely incorporate it into their songs and they don't have whole songs singing. They're rappers.
But back to my point, he didn't make it until
He added singing because he's really not a great rapper and didn't have what it takes to make it on rapping alone.
He doesn't really float on beats, he talks. Like there's no velocity command in his raps. No conviction. He doesn't diversify his tempo either. He really just speaks sometimes. It's like I don't know, he just isn't really much of a rapper. Across the board. Like even if you subtract the ghostwriting thing, he just isn't a great rapper. On a technical level he's not great. What he used to do great was his delivery. And thats not even there. Some of these beats should have been absolutely FLOATED over. Like "9" or "Hype" but he's just talking.
Think Meek on "Gave Em Hope" Kendrick on "Alright" "Blacker The Berry" or Big Sean on "RWT" or even that new kid who made the Panda song. I think it was his second verse where he was floating or the Joyner Lucas Panda remix. They were just floating. It's like he can't do that.

He speaks and enunciates himself so well, it makes some of his bars sound better than they are. "Turn the 6 upside down its a 9 now" "Toyin with me like a Happy Meal" and a bunch of other terrible lines, that he says so well that they sound good. When you really look at his lyrics, they're empty and soulless. And I think that's what he lacks, just soul in his music. It's just not there.
I kept waiting for this album to pick up, and it never came. Just crooning and crooning and even his raps are like crooning because he doesn't flow he just talks. Long ass pauses between everything. Contradictions galore. On "9" he says "Got their loyalty and I didn't have to pay for it" then in the same song says "I got it so I'm everyone's friends; if I lost it we probably wouldn't speak again". That's pretty much saying you pay for your friends. Lyrics all over the place, and it's hard to know what some of these songs are even about conceptually because he doesn't stay on topic.
He had that random Pimp C verse and then went into a totally different subject that has nothing to do with anything he said or the topic at hand. It's all scattered. Like a whole album filled with one liners.
I think this is his worst effort, it's just lazy. I enjoyed pretty much all of his albums. But I can't pretend to like this. I won't. I know he can do better. He already has.
