I once tried listening to that album he made from Jail and it was absolutely awful. I have no idea what people saw in him but I just didn’t get it

For one, I'm not really speaking for the masses but even if I was, there are a lot of people who credit him for this current wave of west coast artists. People said a lot of Kendrick's GNX was Drakeo coded.

That certainly makes a difference in how he's remembered especially since he died.

So what makes him underrated/overrated if its not due to the masses? Whose rating him? Nobody?

I already stated what makes him overrated/underrated TO ME and how I feel the public (who know about him) have reacted to his passing. I see and acknowledge his influence yet he is not that dope to me. Kind of an acquired taste I suppose, like how some feel about E-40 on a smaller scale.

But if GNX is "Drakeo code" he took whatever fam was doing and made it 100 times better. shyt first time I even heard him was on Ruth Chris freestyle with Remble and I was wondering why people weren't more interested in him rather than Drakeo, but apparently he's a biter.

I can definitely understand you saying that he's an acquired taste, he has a different style that everyone won't feel.

But that goes for many rappers, I've heard that many don't like Kendrick because of his voice.
