Chris Brown's been making 25 song albums for years with deluxe editions on top to play with the numbers with the few people left listening to him. He's not the only one, he's just the most flagrant. But you've got it all figured out lol
The reality is there's something with longer projects boosting numbers or else they wouldn't waste time planning 22 songs. Me, you, and nobody else on this board can answer it because in 2025 we still don't know what a stream is. They do or at least they have a better idea than us and that's why they do it

Chris Brown is a singles artist and longer albums will give him more exposure.
Drake and Kendrick, although do work singles too, are mainly artists who make music where listeners consume entire projects at once.
Has little impact, a 15 song album you listen to it repeat the songs again when you finish it, a 21 song album you just listen to the songs play out. Alot of people usually dedicate certain amount of time to listening to music(While on a drive, Working out, doing tasks).
for instance If you have a 2 hour drive and GNX 12 songs play out just start the album again, If you're listening to $$$4U you listen to each song once and half the album again. That narrative of having a longer album means more sales is funny to me.

This longer album talk is real...billboard and chartdata already explained it. No matter how hard drake fans try to spin it, longer albums mean more sales, period. If the creator of bottle water says its made for you to drink, it is made for you to drink.
