I think its stupid to tell an artist what they should and shouldn't do.

All artists have a theme and gimmicks...a call sign.

I dont fukk with Drake at all..but I don't think it's anything wrong with his subject matter. I just won't listen to it.

That's like in the art world...you come in the game raw and hungry and different. To keep making money you gotta keep painting things your collectors know of your work.

Maturity in art is invalid...Picasso often spoke about maturity in his craft. You can apply visual art quoteable to music as well

It's not telling Drake what he should be doing as much as it is an observation. What he's done this far has obviously worked for him and the people who still listen to his music.

There's just no real growth or depth there and yes, people can critique that. It's a legit critique.

And there's not real correlation between what we're discussing in Drake's music to Picasso's work.

If you're comparing Drake to the Jay Z's and Michael Jackson's if the world and saying he doesn't have to show maturity then that is a problem. Imagine Michael Jackson still making Ben or Jay Z still making songs like "Big Pimpin".

And even as a bachelor, Ginuwine debuted with The Bachelor is in his 20's, which ran the gamut of being a bachelor for finding the right woman, the loneliness of being with someone and still feeling alone, wondering why you're not getting a call back, the regret of breaking a woman's heart. Even something like "Pony" has more depth than your average Drake song. Why am I using The Bachelor as an example? Because Drake's OVO Camp came up on that music.

That's the thing....it's growth and his experiences and reflection.

Devin The Dude has been rapping the same subjects since '97 and no one tells Devin to age his music to appropriate levels.

I understand why Drake is upset or offended.

His music is for whoever who wants to listen to it.

Drake has no universally certified classics..
Hes a pyop artist..he makes quick bubblegum music for the moment you can't listen to a year later..he arrived at the right time, when hiphops downward trend was now on full. He benefitted from a dead hiphop environment.
Take care

I don’t get shyt like this. I'm a drake fan but let's call a spade a spade. Last album I enjoyed this ain't it. nikkas are stan enablers.

It's crazy it's like the same 5-10 guys in each thread blindly defending any criticism of the album, while saying nothing positive about the album themselves...very telling.

Devin The Dude isn't held to the same standard. Same with Too Short. Nobody is holding Devin to the standard they hold Scarface. The same way no one holds Too Short to the same standard as 2Pac. Drake is viewed as THE best or at least one of the best of his generation. He's looked at as a great. Dude is about to break a Michael Jackson record. So yes, he will be placed under a microscope that other artists aren't becuase he created a higher ceiling.
