i am not a drake hater. i said he had everything to be the biggest rapper. he has that code switching thing down expertly. if you recall his ellen interview, he sounded like tiger woods for goodness sake. thats something no other rapper has been good at. his stint on snl was real good, he basically been positioned as a hip hop timberlake. and while kanye and kendrick are more critically acclaimed, drake certainly dominates the rap landscape in terms of songs like no one i have seen before.
i actually fx with NWTS heavy. Connect is a fxin classic and is my favorite song ever by him. that is his prototype song. i like Tuscan Leather, Wu Tang Forever, Worst Behavior, Connect. Too Much.
however, can we agree Thank Me LAter is a sh!t sandwich. every guest on that album outshines him. Jeezy, Jay, Alicia. Drake still isnt a great rapper to me, but he was a poor rapper at that point to me. he cant really play with cadences, or rythmn, and was particulry stilted at that point.
Take Care was where everyone was on his dikk but still, what songs are from there that hold up. Listen to the Gill Scott version of Take Care and there is no need to herer the rihanna duet again.
maybe Underground Kingz. again, his guests outshine him, The Weekend, Wayne, Stevie.
but NWTS is when he reached his potential to me.
so no i dont hate drake, i think he runs from battles and isnt a great rapper, but is improving. and is a great songwriter.
