Drake’s struggle as an up and coming rapper was “scraping” together 5K. He trying too hard?

5k a month in 06 is like 10k a month today and after taxes. Canadian taxes. He basically saying he had 175k before taxes a year just to spend on a car. No hate but he ain't struggle a day in his life.

I get what he was saying. To an average person it sounds ridiculous but as a Canadian artist trying to make it in an industry where no other Canadian got love he had to keep up appearances.

it’s like real estate agents leasing expensive cars when they have no deals just to make it seem like three caking.

I agree but I don’t understand why he tries to push the narrative that he hasn’t been signed to universal since Replacement girl. He’s been in a bunch of different deals since damn near 2006.

He was born in 86 which means he would've been in his early 20s with that deal, got on Degrassi in his teens, dudes want to create the narrative that Drake was living some super star life before rap because of their hate of him

if im not mistaken, the degrassi salary was like ~60k/a year, thats a pretty median 9-5 type annual salary (45-60k)

if he had other bills and was the sole income between him and his moms, then 5k for a luxury rental for the sake of image may come at the expense of sacrificing other things

i dont think this implies he was living in poverty lol, just that this is a "fake it till u make it" type origin story for the lifestyle
