Drinking Six or More Coffees a Day Can Be Detrimental To Your Health, New Study Reveals

In Australia, one in six people are affected by cardiovascular disease. It is a major cause of death with one person dying from the disease every 12 minutes. According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death, yet one of the most preventable. Investigating the association of long-term coffee consumption and cardiovascular disease, UniSA researchers Dr Ang Zhou and Professor Elina Hypponen of the Australian Centre for Precision Health say their research confirms the point at which excess caffeine can cause high blood pressure, a precursor to heart disease.

This is the first time an upper limit has been placed on safe coffee consumption and cardiovascular health. "Coffee is the most commonly consumed stimulant in the world -- it wakes us up, boosts our energy and helps us focus -- but people are always asking 'How much caffeine is too much?'," Prof Hypponen says. "Most people would agree that if you drink a lot of coffee, you might feel jittery, irritable or perhaps even nauseous -- that's because caffeine helps your body work faster and harder, but it is also likely to suggest that you may have reached your limit for the time being.

Isn't there caffeine in Coke? Why call out coffee when most people only drink one cup a day, yet those who drink soda do it throughout the day.
There's plenty of information put out on the harms of drinking soda.

Coffee has a higher concentration of caffeine than coke.

Unless you're talking cocaine :win:

Is that really true? The coffee addicts I know drink a lot more than one cup a day. I don't know anyone who drinks multiple cokes a day or even one unless you're talking about kids.

Our last baby sitter had cases of coke in her garage and always had a glass on the counter, she wasn't even overweight. Then theres the guys at work drink it always a have a 24oz bottle near by, and are generally all overweight. The guys who drink coffee do it at the start of the shift, and that seems to be it, plus the cups of coffee are small.

They certainly exist, but most workplace soda consumption is usually done by can where the serving size is contained, whereas coffee consumption is done by cup or mug.

A serving of coffee is 6oz. The average coffee cup size is 9oz. 16oz at Starbucks.

All of that is to say, as you're getting at, people can consume 6+ servings of coffee by having just over 2 'cups' a day and not even notice.

I mean, I've heard stories of people who drank way too much soda. My friend who worked construction said there was this Kentucky hillbilly on one site who said, "I don't drink water. That shyt nasty. I only drink Dew." But I don't remember personally knowing anyone past college who pouring back multiple soda a day.

Meanwhile I know lots of people who wake up and drink a coffee in the morning, head by Starbucks to get a giant cup on their way to work, and then drink from the office machine at work. The real addicts will get another Starbucks during their lunch break or on their way home too. And like @Call Me James says, those big cups are multiple servings.

The K-cup company sold 10 billion pods last year. Ten BILLION servings. By one company. Considering that kids for the most part don't drink coffee and a lot of adults don't either, the people who are drinking are drinking a LOT.

When it comes to that, sugar is the bigger issue. Sure coke contains caffeine but not that much compared to coffee.

Six seems like a lot but I drink a few cups of coffee a day myself :yeshrug: we all gotta die one day.

Anything is bad in excess, but people who get excessively self-righteous about their diets are annoying tbh.
