Is A frame damage serious?
Yes.
You left out some details. What happened? Rear-ender, front-ender, side-swipe.
Where is the frame damage?
Should I take the chance of driving up here and basically commuting back and fourth about once every two months?
Well, depending on the damage, you might be safe and you might get into a major accident causing death and or serious injury to yourself. Why? Cracked welds in the frame can break apart from stress. Bends in the frame can be straightened out, but now your car is no longer as safe as it was before. If you happen to get into an accident, no fault of your own, the frame of the car may not be able to absorb the impact as designed and the other vehicle may enter the passenger cabin, i.e. game over bro.
A bent frame can cause unpredicatable driving if you perform an evasive maneuver, like steering hard to avoid something in the road or breaking hard. The geometry of the wheels may have been altered by the bent frame. Steering at slow speeds is doable but misalignment may cause unexpected oversteer or understeer during evasive action. You may lose control of the vehicle: i.e. spin-out, roll-over, unable to counter-steer in time.
