I brought a S4 2+ years ago with the intent to sell, I never got around to selling and currently need to upgrade ,y phone. My new phone just has to be able to do basic functions such as run Yelp; Tidal/Spotify, Google Maps, and Uber/Lyft. If I start using the S4 will it able to do those things efficiently and fast for the rest of this year?

Yes.

Don't worry about what you read. Phones from several years ago can last longer than what people say.

But obviously, be aware of the lack of care old phones get... May not have even gotten the marshmallow update

Yeah, you're not using any app that wouldn't work on a S4. Don't get on this upgrade yearly wave.

Phones can last for years with care if it was top tier.

It doesn't and won't

Don't think it needs marshmallow either unless that involves less processing than lollipop
