Beyonce is R&B not Hip Hop. Dropping completely out the blue is definitely weird but its not as big a deal in other genres. Probably the decision was made that based on her name recognition, getting this out during the Christmas time buying rush was worth the lack of promotionsl build up.

it will only work for big names like those or my uncle. other than that :camby:

Wait up a second. It only "works" when it works, doesn't matter if the names are big or small. If anything it's the opposite. I see Beyoncé trying to recreate the buzz and word of mouth that builds around smaller names who are buzzing on a grass roots level... They're the ones who truly come out of no where.

This is a cool move for bigger artists who actually have substance and craft vs. bubblegum pop stars who will never try something like this until it's already become corny.

Nah B is hip hop whether people wanna admit it or not. She came up makin hip-hop and r&b type tracks with DC and even when she went solo she never really strayed too far from either side. She's put out a pretty healthy dose of everything. Hip hop, r&b, dance, pop, soul... she's pretty much done it all.

I think dropping an album unexpectedly might actually be better in the current state of the music business. There's no hype or expectations for the album to live up to. People are just like, "Oh sh!t, an album dropped? I gotta get it." I read that Lady Gaga's new album lost her label $25 million because of all the promo they did and it didn't sell as expected. Probably would've been better off just putting it out like Beyonce did.

You dont know shyt brother. My uncle is a legend and would easily outsell Beyonce or even Whitney Houston on a slow day.

If you're "Beyonce" it's genius marketing, if you're "Joe Schmoe" it's just a mixtape:umad:
