The Detroit Pistons will release Peyton Siva before his contract guarantee date, a source tells RealGM.

Siva was the 56th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft out of Louisville.

Siva appeared in 24 games last season with the Pistons, while also playing in another 10 in the D-League.

I like what SVG is doing. Unlike Joe D he isn't hitching his Wagon to any big free agents until he knows what he already has. He's addressing the obvious flaw of lack of shooting now, but he did it without making any longterm commitments or really big contracts, which is the complete opposite of Dumars approach any time he had space. He kept it so that in 2016, when the cap likely increases, and when Drummond is due to get paid, he actually had some flexibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if no other moves were made with Van Gundy being under the impression that there is some talent on this team to work with and it was just not utilized or coached properly before. Maybe he'll see what's there for himself, then determine who should be moved after evaluating them in his own system. I also wouldn't be surprised if he's also working on deals to ship out Smith, Jennings, and/or Monroe at some point. Might wait until the season to move Josh since his value is at an all time low due to bring played out of position all season. Play him at pf to showcase he can still be effective, then move him for some better offers than what was being presented in the summer. Same thing for Monroe. Now that it looks like we won't be forced to give him a max contract he'll be looked at as much more of a tradable commodity at a lower price than originally anticipated.

I have no idea in which direction he'll go, but the great thing is he's allowed himself some flexibility without making any rushed moves that make absolutely no sense when you look at the makeup of the team ala Joe D. Whether we're a lottery team or a playoff team, I at least feel like Stan had a vision and plan on what he wants to do with the team, and is more than just "Aww shyt, I got some extra bread, let me hurry up and go blow through this shyt real quick. fukk rent, I'm going to Motor City!"

Stuckey got the vets minimum from Indy for one season. He better step up or he could be out of the NBA after next season. What a fall from grace he had. This is the guy who was partially responsible for ending Iverson's career cause the coach didn't wanna bench him or Rip.

Optimistic But I Got Hands Tho
The Detroit Pistons and the Sacramento Kings have resumed trade discussions on a deal that could send Josh Smith to Sacramento, according to sources with knowledge of the talks.

Sources told ESPN.com the Kings have continued to express interest in Smith and the parties are on the hunt for a third team that could help facilitate the deal.

Josh Smith's stay in Detroit might only end up lasting for one season if a deal reportedly being discussed between the Pistons and Kings comes to fruition.
As ESPN.com reported last month, Detroit and Sacramento have engaged in trade discussions that would potentially land Smith in the same frontcourt with DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay. Initial talks called for Sacramento to send Jason Thompson and either Derrick Williams or Jason Terry to the Pistons for Smith, but those discussions reached an impasse and were pushed into July along with the rest of both teams' free-agent business, sources said.

Sources said the Pistons also seriously discussed various sign-and-trade scenarios this month that would have landed restricted free agent Greg Monroe in Portland, but the Blazers ultimately pulled themselves out of the race for Monroe by signing free-agent big man Chris Kaman to join Robin Lopez in the Blazers' center rotation.

Skeptics will inevitably question whether the Kings should indeed take the gamble of trying to fit Smith in alongside Cousins and Gay, especially with three years and $40.5 million remaining on Smith's contract from the Pistons last summer and in the wake of his struggles playing alongside Detroit big men Andre Drummond and Monroe.

Sources say the Kings continue to give the addition of Smith serious consideration, largely because the discussions to date have not required them to part with any players in their long-term plans and would also add a versatile and athletic defender to a roster that badly needs one, given how much Kings coach Mike Malone is known to preach defense.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported the latest on Josh Smith's status in Detroit:

Detroit Pistons president and coach Stan Van Gundy reached out to forward Josh Smith to tell him that reports of the franchise engaging in substantive trade talks with Sacramento centered on Smith have been inaccurate and – barring an unexpected turn of events – Smith will be in training camp with the Pistons this fall, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
