Shyts are trash..boring with no replay value
Also, I hope this makes sense but there's a way to keep drums out but still have it sound almost like percussion and keep a bounce to it. If the samples are chopped a certain way they can still seem kind of groove even without drums in a way where you still wanna bop your head.I generally like them if it’s done right but not a whole album or 80% of an album. That’s where it gets boring to me. There’s a bunch of drumless joints where I can hear drums in my head that would fit nicely and add some energy to the song.

unsurprisingly, everybody in this thread forgot about k-os. dude legit has the best drum-less raps out, we all forget his influence on kayne etc.
I agree with this post. However, the main issue with drumless beats are, no matter how good a song may sound with them, the song will almost always be enhanced with well place percussion. This is hip hop. Percussion is the life base. shyt started with breakbeats for goodness sakes.
Drumless beats always got a novelty feel to them to me. Like stop playing around mothafukka, put the percussion in there at some point. Only song I can think of off the top of my head that I would prefer without the drums is All That I Got Is You by Ghostface. But in general, I’m not a fan. And only the real hop heads do this. The boom bap type rappers. But they making songs with no boom and no bap![]()
damn what ever happened to k-os![]()
I give Madlib a pass tooAgain. Only Roc Marc and ALC get that pass.
