SNL is losing because they’re relying on Kenan Thompson in 2026.
Also they’ll never be able to beat what’s really going on in the White House now. Trump’s real life fukkery as President has killed the need for parody. No comedians will ever beat the actual shyt happening. People actually think he’s funny too
SNL has a formula. If you black (with the exception of Keenan thompson for some reason) you have to be a stand up comedian and only one woman and man at a time. If you are white they want you to come from some Ivy League school or improv background. So you wind up with a rotating cast of a token black girl or guy who cant write their own material because they dont come from a sketch background and have to rely on a bunch of rich kids from Chicago and New york to write their material for them. So their comedy comes off as really pretentious and out of touch. They would never have had a Bill burr or a Patrice Oneal on there as a cast member.

Also think that not all good/great standup comedians make great sketch comedians.
Key & Peele were excellent as sketch guys but they're not selling out stadiums with their stand-up.
It's why guys like Murphy and Chappelle were so unique because they could do both. Godfrey is another one that could do it and it's no surprise that SNL blocked him from getting on the show back in the 90s.
They don't want Mooney-type writing in their skits because that would hit too hard. They don't want to be peak In Living Color or even MadTV. They want to be a much more watered down version of that.
