It's not that simple. Benga wasn't making tearout when tearout first started, that was folks like Excision, Cookie Monsta, Borgore and Datsik. Benga just realized he'd make more money representing, so that's what he did. I don't think it's *his* fault the scene went where it did, it was gonna happen even if he didn't jump on the wagon. He just knew he'd make more $$$ and took that over some kind of "pure" artistic integrity. It's important to note that Benga was still making a lot of great dubs even in this period (I'm sad "Goin' Up" never got any kind of release, that's a great track).

It's weak he's going out and publicly saying that. Frankly, it's also a lie, as Magnetic Man ain't goin' nowhere...

Excision was selling out large-scale tours before Skream and Benga even popped off with tearout. It's probably true that Skream and Benga's cosigning brought some fans. But I'd argue that number is far more nominal than a lot of old-school heads want to accept. Not to mention, both producers continued to produce great music while dj'ing bullshyt, and all the jaded heads weren't really talking about the good stuff (another reason I mentioned "Goin' Up")

And I'm pretty sure Datsik and Cookie Monsta were already into their business by the time Spongebob came out. Borgore was.

Spongebob is just the *best* tearout track, not exactly the first though.

And also, did Rusko's "The Moaners" come out (it was a dub for a *long* time before it got official release) before or after Spongebob? That's one of the greatest tearout tracks ever, and it's place in the history of Rusko's career is hilarious.

this is where i @ benga. him and fukkin scream cosigned the bullshyt and starting playing it... and fukkin rusko....

now our timetables might be different b/c in the states we can at times get sounds later than my brehs in the UK. that excision shyt track, and spongebon came out around the same time. i myself have no clue what came first, but coki's ole crazy ass fukkin sound seems to be a big influence on brostep...

semi related, i gotta play some large ass venue and i had planned on it being my last time doing a dubstep set or as the brosteppas like to call it 'snorestep' and i was gonna end it w/ benga - never change

Breh, spongebob was the first 'tearout' track. It was dubplate for a couple years before it came out. Him and Rusko were the first two to really start doing that ish. You should know the score when it comes to DMZ and their releases. Mala and Coki released a couple tracks on Return II Space and Urban Ethics that were made in 04/05 for example. I know 'Serious' is at least 7 years old

I agree with your sentiment in regards to Excision etc though. Although, I wasn't really talking about how many fans they brought in (which is still a good point), but more talking about them making that rubbish brostep stuff appear credbile with them c/s'ing which I feel is more powerful imo as it alters the general perception of things. Like we've now got people who believe Skrillex is a pioneer and started dubstep like if it wasn't for Coki, none of them brostep brehs music would even exist

yeh, thats what i figured. dudes be on some dilla shyt, just sitting on tracks, making dubs, passing to friends and shyt gets played out years before its released... we in the states have no good concept of how old some things are unless u talk to a joe nice type, or a breh such as yourself, usually

yeah its just how underground music has always worked over here. Well, with the genres that subscribed to the jamaican dubplate culture (like hardcore, jungle and grime etc (although grime I think was more to do with the artists being too broke to release many tunes at one time)). The usual lifespan of a track going from dubplate to released song (that is if its even going to see a release) is about two years, but the DMZ gang have always been and taken the piss out of everyones lives with their sporadic release schedules lol. They truly release what they want when they want.



oh and one of your favourites 'DMZ VS MZN' is at least 6 years old as well
