One of the problems with black music today is damn near everything we make has to be put under the umbrella "hiphop" label. It's porsibly an explanation as to why genres such as R&B have effectively become extinct. I'm starting believe that yes this new wave of music should be characterized differently. For example with rock there's classic rock, psychedelic rock, grunge, punk rock, heavy metal. These genres are allowed to exist with varying degrees of popularity but they aren't necessarily stepping on the toes of the other.
