Due to Shai winning MVP he’s now eligible for a 5 year 380 million dollar super max contract extension.

SGA + Chet + JNotTraded Yet going to be pushing 700 million dollars worth of salaries :wow:

Let's see if OKC has grown up are they going to trade Harden for Jeremy Lamb again :pachaha:
Completely different level of player and CBA. Presti and Bennett were clowns in real time in 2012, but it would be foolish to go into the second apron for this 3, or really at all for any team.

That’s like saying Boston is childish for not being able to keep the current roster together, even without the JT injury. And they already have two finals trips and a LOB to their name

This apron stuff is stupid bro. If I drafted you I shouldn’t be penalized if I keep you.
you're not. You can keep everyone if you choose.

The penalties from luxury taxes (owner problem) and what to do if it stops working, that's the problem. Then it becomes a pain in the ass to add and/or replenish.

and in this case, they didn't draft SGA.

They're at least equipped to deal with it better than others, but they gotta make another Wallace, make another Dort the way they found Dort, etc.,

Since apparently there's so much talent, shouldn't be that hard, right?

I already brought up their cap situation potentially going forward. and thunders fans and tremont keep telling me that this is a different front office. This ain’t 2012.

I'm assuming those penalties wouldn't apply to picks that aren't yours correct? If so, that might be a potential loophole in this new CBA.

SGA on a Supermax isn't debatable.

Chet on a max, there's risk involved, but mostly due to his injury history.

I've said a bunch of time if y'all don't think JDub is the 2nd option on this team, don't pay him. Everyone else is expendable and even with a rising cap, there should be more thought put into what the middle class gets paid instead of handing out huge deals thinking they can get flipped later.

OKC has done a great job to this point of doing that financially which only hurts them if they want a Giannis. They'll pay the tax and stay in the apron because the NBA can freeze their picks, not the other 49 picks they own, so they're built for it as long as the team keeps this up.

I think they'll pay him. OKC now has a cornerstone player and two other guys who are also franchise guys in their own right.

As fans, we keep thinking the goal is to beat around the bush with this whole apron shyt and get stars and key pieces for cheap, but with this apron rule, it kinda forces you to spend or else risk being a loser for the foreseeable future.

If you want to remain competitive, you've got to spend; you can't just trade away stars or let them walk for nothing, thinking you can find something cheaper. There has to be some normalcy.

Correct. Can't freeze a pick you don't have and you can't freeze someone else's picks.

They can max out their big 3 and still avoid that 2nd apron. They just have to keep hitting on picks, which is hard to do, BUT, welcome to the new NBA, where not every 2nd rounder is a Euro that @Houston911 is skeptical of by default and won't show up forever. Real homework gotta be done now.
