This analysis is completely wrong. I'll simplify it. You have to be at a certain range and you have to properly shoulder (use form) a rifle to fire a good shot. All he did was squeeze the trigger, thus shooting the guy in the leg, hand and somewhere else. He's not some marksman behind the trigger that planned to just harm the victim and not kill him. Even trained professionals have a hard time trying to do that. There's no shooting course in the world that teach you to shoot at the legs or hands. There's not a soft spot on a leg to shoot. You hit the femoral artery, or an artery in the hip/pelvis it's just as deadly as having your throat cut.
