Dumb question moment. Were Black kids into Harry Potter at all? Were any of you?

Totally, I for one loved it, and a lot of my friends did too. shyt was too big to think black kids didn't fw it lmao

I don't think we really had a crazy fandom over it tho, it was just like this is fun and cool

I was pretty into the books, but honestly almost all of the male friends I had, regardless of race, didn't really care about them. But most of my female friends seemed to be into them. All my black male friends watched anime, so it wasn't like we were above nerd shyt either. It is possible we all read it and just never discussed it with each other. And I was born in '93, so we came up when the movies especially were really popular. I never actually got around to watching the last 4 movies though.

I was deeeeep into fantasy and speculative fiction even as a child. So I was already a gate keeping snob about my fantasy genre when Harry Potter came on the scene. I couldn’t get the hype.

Harry Potter was just okay and I still maintain it’s one of the mediocre series in the genre to this day.
If you read the OG authors like Marian Zimmer Bradley, Robin McKinley, Diane Wynne, Ursula Le Guin, Octavia Butler, Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind, and so many others, Harry Potter was meh in comparison.

But it did what it had to do...I guess...

I was born in 88, so Harry Potter was slightly after my time. My younger sister was into it though. When I was kid I was heavy into Goosebumps and a knock off version called Shivers. I was huge on Animorphs too. I didn't even see any of the Harry Potter movies
