Harden is the most unfairly hated on player in the game right now.

fans are selective with their criticism. They pick and choose according to their own agenda and what fashionable to say. When it comes to Harden, playing defense at high level becomes the most important attribute. But with other (retired) players, defense all of sudden becomes insignificant.

But it's ok. they will appreciate him after he leaves the game.

People must think Harden has been putting up the numbers he's put up since coming to Houston on sub .500 or 30 win teams. Rockets have gone 45-37, 54-28, 56-26 and 41-41 in the Harden era. They've been in the playoffs every year. He's not putting up hollow numbers he's the leader of a perennial playoff team.

The team this year resembles the 56 win Rocket team that went to the WCF. D12 was out half that year and the Rockets were better without him becuz there was more space on the floor. If the 3 point shooting is more consistent for the Rockets I expect them to of course be in the offs and depending on matchups at least get to the 2nd round.

In all seriousness, can you give me 1 superstar level player who absolutely NEVER tries on defense, even in important games?

Keep in mind we are living in a social media era where strengths and weaknesses are highlighted with more scrutiny because footage is posted everywhere as soon as anything happens, so Harden being a horrible defender will get more attention than Reggie Miller or whoever.

he'll be celebrated about as much as webber or Arenas, this is not some transcendant player we're talking about

Harden has a 73.7% probability of getting into the Hall Of Fame right now according to bball reference. Webber has 14% and Gil has 24% so statistically he is far beyond those two:ld:

NBA players love to pump up Harden. Quite honestly I think its for 2 reasons
1 - they actually like him cause he seems like the epitome of a dude that just wants to hoop and hit the club
2 - They don't see him as a threat. Players (and especially stars) don't seem to ride for KD, Bron, Steph, CP, etc at least from what I see and I think its because of what we see from him. He disappeared in the Finals with the Thunder. He'd given up against the Clips and his bench came back and won that game for him. He came in completely out of shape and was the leader of a dysfunctional team this year. I'm betting the top dogs don't think he really has what it takes to threaten their spots/ships
Nah, it's primarily because NBA players recognize how difficult it is to do what James Harden is doing. Same way Allen Iverson is revered by other NBA players but there are an onslaught of non-players, casual fans, and media types that will insist he is an overrated player who was really trash and couldn't play today. NBA players have a different perspective on what's going on in the game versus the rest of us.
