What movies made more money than San Andreas/Furious 7?

Drawing Box Office > Drawing Wrestling Fans on a monday night

Making 20 million PER Film >>>>> the 15,000 he made per monday night raw

When did he ever make the forbes list as an active wrestler?
just cause he makes more money now don't make him a hotter commodity. the WWE technically makes more money now than it used to but the brand is nowhere near as prominent or as relevant as it was in the 80's and 90's.

if Hercules comes out in 2001 instead of 2015 it probably would have been a much bigger hit. why? because rock was a bigger star in 2001. pure and simple.

The Rock was in two blockbusters this year and you're saying he was bigger in 2001? Are you OK, man?

and you believe that people went and saw those movies because dwayne johnson was in them?? :lolbron:

fast and furious was released on 4/3 in the states. only a few days before on 3/28 the rock hosted SNL to help promote the movie. it was the LOWEST ratings they had for the entire season. :francis:

san andreas is a disaster movie. total domestic gross so far? 135 million. meanwhile 2012 (the movie)... which was released in 2009... grossed 166 million... without 3D.

should we attribute those numbers to JOHN CUSACK because he was in the leading role? :pachaha:

independence day was the highest grossing movie of 1996. remember bill pullman? he was the president in that movie. he had a very prominent role. was he a bigger name than hulk hogan in 1996 cause he was just a measly wrestler performing for a only a few million people on tv a week??? :sas2:

Rock in no way shape or form is bigger back in the day compared to now.

Its INSANE to think otherwise.

Hollywood is bigger than Wrestling. Always and forever will be. Im not saying Dwyane > Rock because it's stupid to say that. Its the same dude at the end of day no matter how you slice it.

I will say that Dwayne is bigger now in Hollywood than when he was in wrestling full time. Why? Because WWE is not a bigger commodity than Hollywood. Its why hes has god like status when he shows up on WWETV. Its not only because of his wrestling legacy. His much bigger Hollywood starpower gets combined to his already established wrestling legacy. Why do you think during his initial return to the WWE, they focused so much on the fact that he was an actor? All the video packages and promos from his first Cena feud was showing off that he was an actor, first. When he returned, WWE markteted their youtube videos and WWE.Com page to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? Its pretty fukking clear to me.

He was HUGE in wrestling and used that to catapult to bigger success. It took a while and he had a decent start but the man is huge now. Yes things fell into place with that WWE return but it also fell into place due to his strong performance in Fast Five. He started turning heads. Now fast forward about 4 yrs, he is clearly bigger than his WWE days. People are legit checking for him now in Hollywood. Hes getting Oscar invites. His movies are making more money and getting better reviews (as a solo star). He has a HBO series and two reality shows. Hes signed up for hella movies down the line. Hes on the Chinese Walk of fame Theater. And when Black Adam drops? Its a wrap.

Face the facts, he is legit, wrestler turned actor now. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. And there is nothing wrong with that. His WWE legacy will always be there. His moments, promos, matches and so forth ain't going nowhere. His red hot run back in the 2000s is in the history books. But he has transcended his red hot WWF/E run now.

The Rock and Dwayne Johnson are the same people. So I don't get why you keep showing laughing smilies over saying the Rock being the reason why someone would check for his movies? The Rock is bigger than the WWE. WM doesn't make the kind of money the Furious movies make and they kept put out a movie from their own studios that anyone want to see in a theater. They can't push Miz as a star...not Cena as a star...Blandy..Big Show...Paige..Cripple H....Kane...all of them. They're in a bubble..an apologetic bubble at that. The Rock is the guy studios until he gets back from a surgery or any sort of surgery. That's clout.

Bill Pullman? Independence Day? WTF are you talking about? HAHAHAHAHAHA.....there are ton of stars and movies that has blew away anything Hogan has ever done outside of wrestling. Jennifer Lawrence...Kate Beckinsale.....Angelina Jolie....Scarlett have all done better than Hogan in his prime. That's the industry...that's box office. The Rock has been dropping hits while Denzel, Halle, Julia Roberts, and Brad Pitt remain all hard to find...while Will Smith is trying to make another Bad Boys and another Independence Day to stay relevant.

The Rock and Downey Jr have been grossing more in their movies since 2012 than anyone in Hollywood.

@Kill Dat Noize, here's a piece advice for you

Stop posting for a while.

You dig yourself a deeper and deeper ditch with some of these absurd stances you take (HHH being better than Angle, Rock in 2001 being bigger than Dwayne Johnson in 2015). Go outside, read a book, just do something else other than make shytty posts.

well put. i don't disagree with most of what you said.

but let me put it like this. do more people know him as the rock or do more people know him as dwayne johnson? if you show his picture to a random joe, are they gonna say "that's dwayne johnson" or are they gonna say "that's the rock".

fact is to mostly everyone, he's the rock. when people talk about him in 3rd person, it's the rock. wrestling is the foundation for his entire career. he's not just an actor, he's a wrestler turned actor. that's the gimmick. that's the draw. how many people old enough to have a twitter account didn't know him as the wrestler first? and how big of a star would he be if you took those people out of the equation? how big is his following of people that JUST know him as an actor?

you bring up the fact that rock has all these things going on. reality shows, hbo series... all these things. does anyone care? is anyone watching them? are these shows gonna last for more than 2 seasons? are they gonna last for more than 1??

in the WWF the rock was more than just a main eventer. he was a god. he was worshiped. he transcended wrestling. yes he's in a bigger fed right now (hollywood) but he's a mid carder at best, perhaps not even. remember there are people WAY more famous than him in hollywood. leo dicaprio, will smith, etc.

more people might know about him now but i'm not sure if they care about him as much.

Yes more people would be more inclined to recognize him as Dwayne Johnson off the fact that Hollywood is bigger than WWE. It isnt much more complex than this.

These days is not that easy to say oh yeah, everyone knows him as The Rock. You would have a point maybe 10 years ago or so, but not now. The work and recognition he is putting in now in Hollywood is so far and away what he was doing when he first started. You cant just pass it off and say its a fact that more people know him as Rock over Dwayne. The facts are, Hollywood > WWE, and since he is doing more in Hollywood now, the obvious answer is that he is BIGGER now.

You are just the average wrestling fan that is going to put WWE over Hollywood, so its no surprise that you would say this. But an unbias look on things, would easily say he is bigger now. The wrestler turned actor isnt the gimmick and draw. It just soldifies that fact that he is what it says he is. Former wrestler, current movie star. And a big one at that. You are HIGHLY underrating Dwayne Johnson's worth, work and pull when you use your argument.

I brought up the fact that Rock has multiple projects going on because its more proof that he is doing more work in other avenues these days. That his sucess as an ACTOR is opening up more doors. Wheter or not they suceed is besides the point. The fact that he even gets a chance to put his foot in the door to do that says it all. He didnt have that pull and draw, to do this when he was just WWF Rock.

People care, yes there are bigger stars in Hoyllwood, but its fukking Hollywood. Dwayne is holding his own obviosulsy because he still is getting work. High names are praising him and like I said, Black Adam is going to be a game changer.

wrestling is what allowed him to star in movies though.

the first movie with him in the starring role (scorpion king) grossed 92 million, only 3 million dollars less then jennifer lopez's movie that year. adjusted for ticket price inflation since 2002 and without factoring in 3D, it made more money than san andreas.

but i hear what you're saying
