Agree with everything KAJ said. But, this is why he doesn't get head coaching jobs, for better or worse, the man doesn't play league politics or pander to any egos (but his own).

All the same, in the HOU preseason debut, looked like Dwight was out to prove doubters wrong. He had some nice quick pivot work that made it seem like he's really heeding Hakeem. He finished with a couple soft hooks and I was like :usure: but that WAS Dwight out there.

He has more to prove now than ever, wouldn't be surprised if he turns a corner very very late in his career. Being a dummy and all.

EDIT: Mature response from Dwight

Dwight's Reply To Kareem

When asked about his basketball IQ, Howard defended himself: “You can’t win three Defensive Player of the Year trophies and be stupid. That can’t be done. And I don’t think any coach that has ever coached me has said I have a low IQ for basketball. Have I done some dumb stuff on the floor? Yes, every player has. Have I done some stupid things in life? Yes, it’s life. We make mistakes and learn from them. It is what it is. I think I am very intelligent when it comes to the game of basketball. I have been playing since I was three years old. Each year, I get a little smarter. People will have something to say. Is what it is. I’m in (Houston) now. This city has my back and we are going to ride together.”

Kareem is right.
Athletic though Howard may be, there's a whole other level of basketball that he can reach. And he hasn't.

:what:

'00: 2nd in DPOY, Lakers DRtg 1st (98.2), Lakers OPPG 6th (92.3), 3.0 BPG

People act like Shaq was shyt defensively, he was an elite defensive anchor and in constant discussion for DPOY after '00
Shaq on defense is like Dwyane Wade on defense: It's not that he can't because he has all the tools to be that. It's about IF and WHEN he wants to be a great defender.

But difference is D-Wade would d-up much more often than Shaq would. Bottom line is Shaq was never a great defender because Shaq was one of the laziest superstars to ever step on an NBA court. In te past D-Wade showed up on D often enough to have a reputation as a great . Shaq never even had that.

Oh and the other thing
That year you are referring to if my memory doesnt faile me Mourning won thaDPOY award with like 50 votes. If i'm not mistaken Shaq (2nd place) had less than 20 votes.

So you and the people dapping you, please STOP acting like it was EVER even close that ONE year he came "closest" to being DPOY :stopitslime:

Edit: Found it!!! There you go, B. Shaq may have been 2nd, but shyt WAS NEVER CLOSE
  1. Mourning 62 votes.
  2. Shaq 21 votes

The best part is that he barely had to train Bynum or Gasol when they faced the Coward in the championship:pachaha:

It's true though, his lack of ball smarts is whats keeping him from being the undisputed best center in the league. I actually think Hibbert may end up being the overall better player next season.

Just setting the record straight doggy. Mofo acting like SHaq cared about defense. I believe that was the 1 year he was even in contention for DPOY and as shown in my previous post above you he didnt even come close to winning it even though he was 2nd in voting.
Could Shaq had been a great defender? Possibly. But was he? Hell no.
If you citing blocks per game as evidence note that Manute Bol almost averaged 5 blocks a game one season but he was NEVER a great defender

lol but being in 2nd place for DPoY is the closest you can be to winning it but definition.

1st place: 62 votes
2nd place:21

Was there really a contests here? Sure he D'ed up that season and i give him props for that. But my point remains Shaq was always lazy on D and only played D when pushed to and even then it was a damn struggle

When ESPN, Insiders, even players and all other sources discuss great defenders Shaq's name is never mentioned. But in the-Coli.com ....:myman:

Shaq is arguably the worst pick and roll defender I've ever seen. Teams used to ABUSE the lakers with that play
To his credit asking Centers to come way out of their comfort zone to defend a P&R is asking a lot. So I give him a pass on that aspect
