If the NFL was classed as a sport, with individual teams competing against each other, they could be charged under antitrust laws for fixing games. But being classed as a form of entertainment, the teams are technically working in unison for entertainment purposes, so it's perfectly legal for the NFL to fix a game.

The fact that officiating is so terrible and there is never any sort of push to improve it tells you all you need to know. I can believe that officials are inept if there were one or two occasional blown calls, but when officials are constantly injecting themselves into games to keep the scores close, it tells me that there is something wrong.

Tim Donahy who used to officiate the NBA, wrote a BOOK talking about how they rigged the games. Why would it be different in the NFL?
