Report: Tigers interested in Tim Lincecum as a*reliever | SI Wire

The Detroit Tigers, in need of some bullpen help, are targeting San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum, reports FoxSports.com.

Lincecum, a two-time National League Cy Young winner, had a 3.83 ERA over his last seven starts before throwing a no-hitter last Saturday. He is 5-9 this season with a 4.26 ERA and 125 strikeouts.

Lincecum, 29, is making $22 million this season and the 43-50 Giants could be looking to dump salaries before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. Detroit is 12th in the American League in bullpen ERA.

The Giants may be hesitant to unload Lincecum, however, as such a trade could have repercussions on the field and in the stands. More from Fox Sports:

The National League West remains winnable, Lincecum (even at 80 percent of his peak) could stabilize the rotation in the second half, and defending champions rarely take themselves apart.

Besides, what happened Saturday night — however unexpected — is certain to galvanize Lincecum’s many supporters in San Francisco. He’s the foremost hipster hero in baseball, a perfect fit for the Bay Area. To trade him now would be very unpopular, and the Giants are reluctant to do anything that might jeopardize the sustainability of sold-out gatherings at AT&T Park.

Yea, as the defending champs, I don't see us being sellers. I think the NL West is still up for grabs and we got a decent change
