I don't get why EA's support is a huge deal for Nintendo to have. It'd be different for the other two consoles, but Nintendo has been largely responsible for the top tier games on their own systems.

When was the last time EA made a hit for WiiU?

Madden and Fifa haven't really been premier games for Nintendo since SNES. If I wanted to play those from Gamecube on I went to Sony or MS.

Why does this announcement make any difference in what Nintendo does?

Nintendo is the most profitable video game company on the planet. Wii utterly dominated 360 and PS3. DS utterly dominated its competition. 3DS is presently doing well. Wii U has done better than PS3 and 360 launch numbers combined. Wii U will be fine and if Wii U failed N would still have enough bank to release another console easily. N to this day still has the most popular franchises and mascots. N is not even remotely close to going out of business but keep dreaming Used Mattress.

The only company that may go under is SONY but it is unlikely.

It depends on how easy and thorough the console is to develop for. PS3 was beasty. Though it seems only Naughty Dog and Guerrilla Games went the extra mile. The rest, not so much.

Most engineers doing their jobs are not going to do it so sloppily that ones on the other side will simply "optimize" their platform for RAM. You can take things here and there to make the RAM access better in some areas but you're not going to shut out the obvious spec leap in RAM types, namely DDR3 and DDR5.

And how fast does RAM need to be in next gen systems anyway? And how do the posters of this forum know this? I never even heard this question asked. Its just "Uh, one is faster so thats all I need to know"

The fastest you can/your customers can afford. You can't downplay the greater capabilities. They are built better, are clocked faster, have much higher bandwidth, and on the topic of optimization they utilize the CPU better by design.

ESRAM was a smart move by MS to try and make DDR3 access faster, but it won't do much in the long haul. It's still another hoop to jump thorough and it has a much smaller size for anything useful outside of really small tasks and coding. It also only tries to bandaid only the speed part of DDR3. They can manipulate the ESRAM that as they wish, I'm sure some smart engineers will make it useful, but as it stands it's less capable than PS4's RAM.

Just to note, the Wii-U also has DDR3 RAM.

Ok Nintendo makes the best games for their system, not very hard when your competing with shyt.

nikkas that buy Nintendo systems only do it for Nintendo games, everything else flops no matter how good it is ( eternal darkness, viewtiful Joe, xenoblade, resident evil 4,etc.)

Nintendo can't keep being the only ones making real games, and if people only buy their games then start waiting for that Mario to hit the xbox

Trust me, If PS4 doesn't take notes from Nintendo on how to make an affordable console with marketable IPs and fun games, they (Sony) is gonna go under. PS3 only sold half the units as PS2 at the same point of its lifespan. Not to mention that the PS3 is still taking small losses when every console is sold.

From the looks so far in the handhelds, Vita is a legit failure and 3DS is doing well. Hope that PS4 has more success than the Vita.

Gaming originally appealed to kids, like the old NES and SNES days. Sure, gaming grew up, but at the same time, Sony would be stupid to sell another system at a loss and sell it over $400 out the gate again, all for the sake of graphics. Sony got their hands forced in the PS3 era cause their speciality, Japanese centered games, no longer appealed to American gamers and first-person shooters taken over everything. On top of losing all the exclusive third party games cause the cost of development of the games have bloated to Hollywood status. all for the sake of graphics and "real gaming"

That is why M$ knew and did it first and aggressive. Sony literally has no idea how to market games post PS2 era where Japanese games are at the back burner.
