Earl isn't the easiest listen.

He ain't been the same since after his OF hiatus. He had a lot more personality and presence on the mic when he was running with Tyler. These days, I respect the work, but I rarely go back to it.

Nah man, he started putting his personality in the music more after Doris, starting with I Don't Like shyt I Don't Go Outside. That album was about his depressions, Some Rap Songs about the death of his father and this new album about his family life. He really took us on a journey from depression to happiness over the last 10 years and its been incredible to witness.

Yeah if anything Earl's early stuff was just him doing rappity rap Eminem style shyt. But his music has since become a lot more introspective. It's often obscured in his hazy abstract style but he really is speaking on some serious heavy shyt in his raps often. He's legit one of the best writers in hip hop.
