Skepticism is healthy, but some of the nonsense that people buy into is counter-productive. Naive minority of TLR idiots are one thing, but the real problem is the shrinking or demise of Black news outlets.

If those local and national outlets still existed, people could call in and ask questions as the shows had Black physicians on air separating fact from fiction. Rumor from reality.

People listen to youtube and social media buffoons for news/info primarily because the news media platforms aren't around.

What does skin color have to do with fact of fiction? People have and will always believe what they want to believe.

The thread title is what skin color has to do with it. Black people have to navigate life with a certain amount of skepticism when it comes to the mainstream media. The Black press has always been vital in bringing the truth the community......via educated and trained Blacks who can answer questions...especially in times of crisis. People need to hear from people who have backgrounds/expertise of these issues in times like this, NOT youtube clowns.

Let me ask you a question. If the health,wealth, and quality of life disparities are what they are in this country, don't you think the stakes are higher for Black people when it comes to problems that come up.

They want to put black people in a state of fear by continually telling us "Its real" and "You can be affected too". Black owned media has always tailored their news to the community that they serve.
When Ed Gordon/Jacque Reid hosted the BET news shows on Black owned BET, or when the local AM radio show that older generations used to listen to had news segments......they were relevant to the BLACK target audience.Mainstream news reporters cater to the general audience.
The topic "Blacks and immunity to Covid-19" would have come up , and been debunked WEEKS ago on Black owned news networks, by Blacks with medical backgrounds.

This topic is coming up just now in mainstream media, as the numbers for infections and deaths for Blacks trend upward.

Whilst I believe we are more susceptible to the disease because of our overall poor health, due to both nurture and hereditary diseases... I do believe hospitals provide us with the worst care possible. It has been proven in studies that doctors are less likely to give us medication and expect us to bare the pain... so I wouldn’t be shocked if we’re being left to die once we get admitted.

Please pull up a previous post where I said black folks couldn't catch the rona. I never said that! I assumed that healthy, in-shape black folks (with no underlying health conditions) would be asymptomatic or only have mild symptoms.

which is interesting considering now drs are suspecting that it affects the hemoglobin and is a virus that affects the blood first and Africans and AA would be most at risk considering the data that sick cell, anemia (hemoglobinopathy) is more prevalent amongst that demographic

not even that, it’s thought that the virus disrupts the hemoglobin oxygen capacity, hence why you also see very healthy people dying of it, this explains why the numbers in Italy and NY are so high, because a lot of Africans and Italians have hemoglobin issues to begin with
