it was their defense that drove them though.
defense, and smart ball.

They played tough D and locked up teams, having them frustrated and shyt. They controlled the pace. and they were efficient.

THey were great because they did it without a true superstar. ANd they were the ultimate team .
They were good in their era, but they wouldn't had thrived in any other I don't think. They weren't built to play fast, lacked the depth and firepower to get into shootouts, and were only gonna win one way. In their era though, that defense was about as good as any unit you'll see. I think the 2003-04 team had a 5 game stretch of holding teams under 70 points :scust:

watching these raptors...and watching those pistons teams shows you that they could hang nowadays.

Rip and Chauncey were pretty nasty back in the day. and lets not forget that Sheed was a threat all over as well. They kept the scores down because they controlled the pace. I'm not gonna look up exact stats but I'd bet that they (on average) had low amounts of possessions per game. not that they couldn't score, but that they didn't have as many chances.

Which obviously benefited them.

The east is weak. Cavs nearly sweeped the whole Eastern Conference playoffs. No one else in the East would be doing better against the Warriors.
