If ease of use is the only criteria, you would eat a lot of food differently. Why use a spoon for soup when you can just lift the bowl to your face and gulp it down? Why cut a steak with a knife and fork, when you just hold that thing with your hand and bite off a chunk?
The silverware you use is more about personal preference and etiquette than ease of use.
Etiquette wise, western societies are taught to use a fork and knife for rice. You supposed to flip the fork over (prongs facing down) and push the rice onto the back of the fork with your knife. that's according to western dining etiquette.
in the east you use chopsticks for sticky rice and a spoon for other types of rice. or hands
