I was reading/hearing something that about a strain that is airborne and basically stays in the air a droplet for awhile until someone else comes nearby and breathes it in.........at this point, there are all kinds of information out there....so who knows :yeshrug:

This is the source of this info..........................

Lot of information out there, but this analysis, should make everyone feel better (don't ask me how sarcasm)

All things considered....how is African "bushmeat" different than deer, rabbit, moose, reindeer, wild pigs "bushmeat" or any other non-domesticated animal........
No my palate ain't getting jiggy with monkey and bat sandwiches, but that doesn't take away from the fact its just like people shooting deer out in the woods ...

Maybe I'm off here........... :ld:????

You are off sadly. The more isolated an animal is, the more likely it might develop diseases or virus that only affects that animal until transmission occurs(usually through blood or feces) . Also, diseases sometimes have different results in different animals than the origin species, or sometimes they might affect isolated subgroups of the same species. Happens in humans too, which is why when the Europeans came to the Americas, the crippled the local populations which could not handle the new diseases or even the spread of the Spanish flu.

But people do get sick eating or interacting with non-domesticated animals outside of Africa. In China recently, and in the US there have been cases of the bubonic plague from eating rodent-like animals. SARS began with bat feces infecting pigs I think. Avian flue from eating infected birds. The Black Plague which decimated European populations came from rat feces and eating rat meat. The key is proper containment and knowledge about the disease.

As the death toll from the world’s deadliest-ever Ebola outbreak surged past 600 in West Africa, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned West Africans to stay away from certain popular wildlife species that are thought to carry the disease.

“We are not suggesting that people stop hunting altogether, which isn’t realistic,” FAO’s chief veterinary officer Juan Lubroth said in a release on Monday. “But communities need clear advice on the need not to touch dead animals or to sell or eat the meat of any animal that they find already dead. They should also avoid hunting animals that are sick or behaving strangely, as this is another red flag.”

Fruit bats are among the most notorious for spreading disease, according to the FAO. The U.N. organization said West Africa’s current epidemic, which has so far killed at least 604 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, was probably first transferred from an infected animal, and then began spreading between people. Ebola is transferred by direct contact with the blood or body of infected people or animals.

Fruit bats are often eaten dried, or as part of a soup in West Africa. Unlike other animals, they may show no signs of having been infected with Ebola, so the U.N. recommends that they be avoided altogether.

Several African governments have tried to ban the sales of bat and other meats because of their potential to carry disease, but medical pronouncements and medical professionals are often greeted with suspicion in rural parts of West Africa.
