We get it. Hot 97 sold out to the corporations just like the rappers they play.

I don't believe that he will be fired if he plays Sean Price. I just think it means more money for him and the station if he doesn't play him.

His Payola explanation wasn't very good either for the simple fact that a artist already in rotation could play a dj for even more play. It doesn't have to be some no name artist out of the blue like he said. Also I'm sure all of his dj's take payola from artist to be played at clubs which in turns means plays on the radio.

I think he revealed to the public more than he was suppose to and that this wasn't some big master plan of his. The information was good but it shouldn't over shadow the issue that Hot 97 is a dangerous bs station that only plays a few select artist signed to a few select major labels in a system set up to work in their favor. The science behind it only shows me that they have a system of control in place.
Naw, you dont get it

Basically it comes down to this

Hot 97 plays what the millions of regular listeners like, stay in business

Hot 97 plays Sean Price, for people who dont listen to them and are like 1/100th the # of regular listeners... they lose regular listeners, advertisers pull out, they go out of business or get bought out by an entity that will cater to the regular listeners anyway

Its business

You nikkas dont buy discs, you dont buy products, you dont listen to the radio, why should radio stations cater to dudes like us

I listened to this whole interview and basically all Ebro really said was he's Corporate controlled Period. Also anyone believing Payola isn't going on is living in a fantasy world. Payola has been going for for decades across all genres. They have different ways of doing it. Basically Hot 97 is TOLD what to play which is why there play list is terrible day in and day out. Sure they got there little Old School Hour from Mr. Cee and Two independent hours from Sly and Rosenberg but the fact is what we hear is what the Corporations want you to hear. And Please spare me "There research tells them what to play". No the Labels PUSH what they want you to hear. Mainstream Radio is dying anyway. The Radio is telling you "This is Hot" it's not like it's a Hot song and the radio catches on. They basically use Classical Condition and play the same songs enough times to make it "Hot" per say.

Great interview, and its cool to have insight on Ebro. He's definitely someone thats been in the industry for a very long time, and I was pleased to see that he knew his rap shyt basically.

That said, it almost made me think less of him. He's here giving props to the artists and albums that he loves, yet as "program director", he does nothing for them...He's basically telling you how much of a sell-out he is. Its interesting to have the perspective because he isnt some "plant" type business-grad, but someone that seems to truly love hip-hop, yet he tells you that he is running a business that does not have the culture's best interest in mind...

I see his point, and his opinion on the Sean Price shyt makes sense, I dont fault him for chasing the dollars, but then again the whole "hey I'm just doing my job" angle feels like horseshyt from him. A little talent show he puts on that no one knows about for up-and-comers? Thats about it. He plays it safe, and maybe if he wasnt getting that fat check he might actually practice what he's preaching...but hey, thats just me
Bump

I guess his argument would be that if he does play the real shyt he likes, he'll lose his job and they'll just get someone else to do his job. so it's better for him to stay and try to sneak the dope shyt in when he can/do a solid for someone up and coming who needs it cause the next guy won't even care to.
