Powerful song. :wow:

One of the most powerful and moving songs evs

"Southern trees bear strange fruit" might be the most powerful metaphor ever.

I've always struggled to play the song fully because I keep seeing those images of men hanging from trees with cacs surrounding them smiling while getting ready for a picnic. You can feel the evil coming out of the photos.

It is bro. It's what she's saying, how she sings it, her voice, it's :wow:.

And yea I can't remember the last time I've played the whole thing. I mostly hear it thru samples on other songs, it's been sampled alot

To me it's the term strange fruit. It almost feels like it's from a child's perspective and they don't understand what's hanging from the trees. They get closer and realize it's people :wow:

Yup, or it's the parent having to tell a child it's strange fruit because how do you explain to a small child what it really is.

The thing that really disturbed me was how popular that song was in it's time, specifically Billie Holiday's version. I saw a documentary on it that at first they were afraid of releasing the song, given the theme. But it ended up being a very popular song, white people loved it. It was one of her most requested songs to be performed. I find that odd given that the song was pertinent to that time. It was a sad reality. I have trouble listening to it and don't like to listen to it too often because it's so sorrowful and painful. How people used to like to see it performed given it was still going on, I find that very "strange".
