I don't think I really do, but I managed to convince a psychiatrist I have ADHD so I could get Vyvanse and Adderall perscriptions. I'm conflicted on whether I should try to get xanax for my anxiety issues. I have severe anxiety. Xanax, however, is extremely addictive. I quit it cold turkey about 6 months ago after increasing dose, but I could see addiction setting in regardless. Switching drugs and stopping for 2-4 weeks at a time seems to work best to avoid addiction. I also don't take any drug "for fun".
But did you " convince " the Dr.? Or merely just explain your situation. What else explains the improved performance on medication? I dunno

One of the ways to never get addicted is to NEVER try recreational drugs, including tobacco.

You're right: I didn't convince the doctor as just explain my situation. He was sympathetic. How did you know how things went? Self confirmation bias may be a factor in my denying I have ADHD. I don't want to say I have ADHD because teh diagnosis is stigmatized. I'm also naturally intelligent (or else I think I am?), which I'm not sure everyone is (?). The medication helps my general disorganized nature and tendency to procrasinate. The medication also increases my attention span and allows me to think more deeply on topics, which reveals memorable insights and accordingly helps me when it comes to test-taking.

Many black men are undiasgosed/untreated for ADHD and the results are not good.
Stats show untreated ADHD shows increase incarceration, decreased quality of life, decreased educational arraignment, employment, wage, and decreased health, and shorter life span.

Yup, all these facts are why I recommend ADHD to Black men even when we don't have ADHD. Adderall, Vyvanse, and other "study aids" give us an advantage, which we sorely need in a world where we're disadvantaged. Our academic motivation can also be sapped by an overemphasis on sports, hip hop, etc which are anti-ntellectual and unrigorous. Adderall counteracts this.
