How are divisions useless?
Who should the Lakers play more games against? The Clippers, or the Knicks?
Ask the person responsible for buying jet fuel.

Because in general teams now play the teams in the division basically the same amount of games as they do any other conference opponent. It's not like football or baseball where you face the divisional opponent much more, which is how those inter-divisional rivalries are fostered.

Why would the league elimiante that much revenue?

I think you are over analyzing a bit what im saying I basically want the conference system gone of course some teams would play more then twice if you keep the 82 game schedule although they need to reduce that aswell.

You can't force rivalries though, its organic and can happen anytime.

you can definitely breed rivalries by putting more emphasis on divisional play like the NFL does.

when teams play each other more times than they do other teams, and they're both fighting for the same playoff spot... naturally they become rivals.

it also stirs up excitement among the fanbases in those regions. it's fun to have that rivalry with the fans in the next state over. regional rivalries are good for the game.

How about just seeding the top 16 teams for the playoffs

I think its more disgusting that sub .500 teams make the playoffs in the east while better teams in the west are at home watching

16 teams is too much anyway. That's more than half the league.

12 would be ideal imo.

Breh the logistics would be nightmarish. Conferences & divisions work in part for better & more accessible scheduling for teams in that geographic area. It wouldn't work for a balanced schedule over 82 games

I'm convinced that most of The Coli brehs who are in favor of no conferences aren't thinking about that at all...they just want to see basketball, which is cool, but it's not realistic to eliminate conferences for a 1-16 playoff setup

I would rather just rank all the teams 1-16, regardless of conference, and bracket them that way.

Do a best of 3 for the first and second rounds (MAYBE 5 for the second), best of 5 for the conference finals, and best of 7 for finals. More days could be added in between games for the first two rounds so the players don't suffer too much from traveling fatigue.
