I still don't see how thinking someone is the devil or racist stops you from attending a charity event they also happen to be at. It is as serious as the people are expressing but to what point? Hillary and Donald are going to say 'fukk the Al Smith Dinner!' because of it? You thought they hated each other to the point they are going to lose their temper and do something out of character? That's petty and uncivil, it would reflect poorly on them to react that way.

But I'll play along. What is the alternative to putting on a brave face and acting like you are unaffected? Should one of them punch the other? Walk out? Twist your face and act like you're effected by what's going on? All of these expressions of displeasure would be counterproductive to them winning the presidency.
Have you ever seen a KKK member, Neo Nazi or just an openly racist person in real life? What stopped you from running over to them, tackling them and choking them until they are dead? That's the same instinct stopping them from doing anything but act civil. Self-preservation.

they were both at a charity dinner where the candidates and other political figures all gather together, poke fun at each other, wear shyt-eating grins and often pretend to laugh at jokes, regardless of how well they actually get along. it's basically tradition at this point.

were they not supposed to show up? were hill and the donald supposed to sit there and scowl at one another all night? have a knife fight? i mean, they have donors there, their campaign people, their major backers, the media...i don't understand what you guys were expecting other than two politicians going with the flow and being civil at a social event.
