Red-State Americans aren't intellectuals and that's a reason why the Blue coastal cities have always been bastions of innovation and progressive thoughts in the USA, we foster intelligence, Red States forgoe such ideals.
I don't think that dichotomy is useful. Every election cycle, there are 'Red States' that go 'Blue' or vice versa (like Michigan in 2024).
American society has been fostering anti-intellectualism for decades. Ranging from elites like Donald Trump saying that he, "loves the poorly educated" or poor people in Blue States making fun of their peers in high school for doing well in school. Besides, how many people on this forum or that you know in real life said that the COVID vaccine was bad for people? Or that think vaccines cause autism?
As well, politicians (regardless of their political affiliation) have been going after university funding and academic independence for various reasons (anti-Zionism, anti-socialism/Marxism etc.).
Anti-Intellectualism is on the Rise in America
