I saw a girl upload her 1k electric bill today on social media.

My dawg said his went from a consistent $120 to $380 in two months

So I did some research via reddit and saw that the entire country has been getting smacked with outlandish electric bills these past few months.

Not a 10-20% increase. We're talking from $330 one month to $900 the next.

Also don't forget that all these new AI applications are extremely extremely power-hungry. They add a lot of demand to the grid if you're in a major city. And most major cities have at least one of these operations locally because most corporate HQs and universities are running their own proprietary AI models.


Even if another company is running the AI model for them, data centers to manage and store prompts are power hungry too.


More demand for power, means higher power rates

Thought it was just me, this started happening to me in like late 2023.

I called Frontier and asked them to look into it and they said it was accurate.

At that point I assumed it was because I had been cooking at home a lot more.

we just got a price increase in june. I got solar panels installed last month, but I still am waiting for the city to do the inspection so they can be turned on, so I'm still paying the electric company until then.

Electricity is cheap as fukk. How are they getting hit with 200% increases in 1 month? Something isn't adding up.
