I knew Apex and sports games were keeping the lights on at EA but god damn.

Battlefield has to be held some wild expectations then.

DICE has lost their way; the people who REALLY understood what makes Battlefield different from COD no longer work there. If they *really* wanted a FPS to compete with COD, they should've kept the Bad Company franchise; BC2 was ahead of it's time.

people are going to be wailing and gnashing their teeth over this but know damn well they forgot that franchise existed until reading this

More like people are gonna bytch, but they know good and damn well the instant they saw the new Titanfall game is an extraction shooter, they would've shyt all over it I hate that people lost their jobs, but let's not act like this was us losing something that would've been a surefire game changing hit.

The gaming industry needs to crash to get this shyt over with and restart
I do think there's too much consolation with all the big players. It stifles innovation and creativity. Especially when you see that Clair game was made with like 60 folks

What is the big deal with the gaas shooters to these companies... its like literally hitting the lottery but the odds are against you, the market too oversaturated

Man it's not safe to be working in the game industry, unless it's indie..

Speaking of EA i just read a article where this woman who works at Respawn took a entire year to write the backstory of a new character for Apex Legends, then as soon as they introduced the character into the game she was laid off :mindblown:

The issue is suits and shareholders run these companies instead of people with a passion for games, so their leadership and direction is absolute dogshyt, which results in chasing trends.

Exactly. EA has become so risk averse with what they choose to develop and publish that they've narrowed their release schedule to the point where something like a down year for FIFA/FC and/or Apex can effect them so much.

Until the people in charge get it in their head that variety and stuff developed according to creative vision instead of marketplace dictated bulletpoints can be successful, we're stuck with this cycle of success followed by reactionary layoffs.
