Above the fray.
My senses are rarely ever wrong.

With what Skip (Columnist) and Shannon (football player) said about him today, I bet there is a strong amount of people in both camps that feel that way.

Chris Carter retired as the number 2 player at his position in most, if not all stats and criteria.

Got jerked a few times by the HoF voters.

Apparently the voting seems to be random and subjective. If you retire as the number 2 receiver and you played some of your career pre-modern day defensive rules, and the Hall fronts on you anyway........shyt is a joke.

Yep he been not very good for the longest time but his last name, those 2 rings, and the New York media machine gonna prop him to make sure he gets in the HOF first ballot ...mf'er was stinking up the joint something terrible 2 yrs ago and got benched and the whole world went crazy even tho he should've been cut ages ago
NTM he was part of two of the most iconic plays in Super Bowl, if not overall NFL, history.

The story is balancing impact vs numbers compiling. Matthew Stafford is going to finish with better numbers than most quarterbacks and whenever he goes to Canton, he should be a paying customer like you and I because his impact his trash. He once had 5000 yards and didn't make the pro bowl that year because those yards were empty.

Eli's a pro bowler 25% of the time. Never top ten in many important stats. Even the Super Bowl runs, the patriots offense averaged 37 and 32 points those seasons. The giants defense gave up 14 and 17. The giants offense in both games didn't achieve their season's average in points scored. If the average offense for both shows up, patriots win the first super bowl between the two 37-23, the patriots win the second super bowl 32-25. However, the scores were 17-14 and 21-17. We know, quarterback gets most of the glory but how do you not look at this and go, wow, the giants defense held the greatest regular season team ever under their average by 23 and the other game, by 2 touchdowns. The giants defense gave 120 minutes of excellence, Eli gave two great moments. If we are in the counting moments business, Robert Horry should have been a first ballot hall of famer.

Eli's going to get in one day, I think we all see it. Model citizen, consummate professional. The question is if he truly deserves it because of what he did for his entire body of work on the field. That's where it gets cloudy.

good post, but Eli should be compared to Big GAME James, not Big SHOT Bob.
Meaning James Worthy's career numbers don't scream HOF, but when the money was on the table he showed up and showed out.
Those playoff runs were epic and Eli came through when the Giants needed him. ......not just in those highlight catches in SB.
Giants defense played their hearts out, and able to get to Brady without blitzing, but there was only 1 pro bowler on that defense that season, Osi. Eli wsn't playing with steel curtain, ray lewis defense, or the legion of boom out there

*In the Chris Carter post I mentioned that, although he didn't play in the dbs-can-do-ANYTHING-to-receiver era,Carter played before the modern wide receiver friendly era. Meaning he got his stats in legit manner. Stafford plays in modern pass friendly/QB friendly rulebook and playbook era.Average qb who stays healthy will challenge Marino/Fouts season and career numbers.

Fitting. Sums him up perfectly (although I hate win/loss records for individuals in teams sports) Dude is the Forrest Gump of NFL QBs. I ain't talking bout the faces he makes, I'm talking about falling into great circumstance.

If dude's last name wasn't Manning, and he didn't play in NY, and he didn't make 2 throws (1 of which was pure luck) he'd be Josh McCown or Jon Kitna.

This nikka aint getting into the Hall :camby:

1. He would be the only QB to get in that has a career rating below the average for his era

2. Those “top 10” stats he has wont be there by the time he is eligible (Matty Ice, Arod, and Stafford will pass him in yards and TDs by the time he is eligible”

3. Never was all-pro and only was selected to the pro bowl 4 times

4. Never was top 5 in rating or td passes in a season

5. Only two QBs are in with a .500 record or below
