I'm not so much as worried about A.I. achieving sentience and deciding to wipe us all out. Not yet at least. I am deeply worried about how A.I. will be used by people with the wrong intentions though. On the other I am a extremely excited about the opportunities it will open for humanity. Humanity can accomplish some very monumental feats with A.I.

If we're lucky we could see A.I. massively assisting us with a lot of these in our lifetime and that isn't hyperbole.
Now there are tremendous downsides to A.I.

Autonomous weapons
Eliminating jobs - It will eventually end work as we know it and society will have to restructure itself. However, what do we do in the interim? What happens during that window of time when the government doesn't have any solutions to address the rapid changes happening? This will cause major dishevels amongst the masses
Mass surveillance
Realistically by the time governments and most citizens realize the catastrophic consequences of any of the above it already have been too late. The cat is already out of the bag and if we shut it all down now, it will likely mean that countries like China and Russia will spearhead A.I. developments. An outcome almost a bad.
