Congresspeople are really dropping the ball on this. Is the Space X contract really that important? Are there legal reasons their hands are tied? Do they feel like Elon Musk's "free speech" claims will gain weight if government goes after him? Or is it just the typical "rich people get away with murder"?
I think the one in bold is the main reason.
Republicans have basically the same views as Musk and are pretty much on his team, and I'm sure Democrats would worry about being accused of being anti-free speech and dealing with a right wing backlash if they went after him. Which I'm sure they don't want in an election year.
