Elon Musk wants a free speech utopia. Technologists clap back.

If you're looking to limit free speech by introducing social accountability, just say that's what you want.
How does this limit free speech? "Social accountability" is also free speech. You want to say some out of pocket shyt, stand on your square.

such a policy doesn't "limit" speech as much as it leads to people self-limiting what they'll say. Same outcome nonetheless.

You continue to reveal exactly who you are with this type of personal attack. If you don't think some people aren't smart enough to be exposed to certain information without becoming radicalized, that's your opinion. I'm just pointing out that it's bigoted.
If you even hear the Russian language, you might spontaneously combust.

:manny: Fine by me.

We need to be more civil with one another. People have gotten too comfortable being rude and demeaning to others.

Twitter removing Trump arbitrarily for me is a big problem but BUT BUT if you agree with the move for whatever reason, that’s fine. I’m not gonna die on that hill. However Twitter banning nikkas for “homophobia” or “Transphobia” when a quick search of the phrase black men brings up the most horrific racism imaginable is truly hypocritical.

Is Elon musk gonna do anything to satisfy my demands on this? No. But did he inadvertently raise an interesting debate about censorship? Of course. I’m not even a free speech weirdo I actually support censoring things just not censoring political speech it should be protected and the other side should be presented.
Yea and for the record I’m not about to be out here defending twitters policies. To your point they banned me for calling Brent musberger a racist :mjlol:

I’d agree there’s a double standard (or just systemic racism) regarding the flagrant shyt that’s said about most POC. As far as that intersecting LGBT, you can’t get mad at them for defending their honor, the issue is Twitter as a company not doing shyt about the racists (like Richard Spencer).

At the end of the day, I think Twitter realizes if they banned all the racists or homophobes from their platform, they’d lose too much of their user base and be less profitable. As a public company, that’s an issue that should be discussed about all corporations not just Twitter. If the majority or large percent of stakeholders are racist boomers, then there’s no incentive for social progress in the business sector because as capitalist entities they’re strictly built to appease their owners.

People becoming more conscious of the things they say and how it affects people isn't a bad thing. A more civil society is good. Still, it's not like it's the government kicking down your door and telling you what you can't or cannot say, so I don't get all this DEATH OF FREE SPEECH!!! whining.

Is society more civil when people want to say things but don't because they fear the consequences of saying those things? We may have the patina of civility but juuuust under the surface....

So it's safe to assume all of this is by design. I don't have a problem with sensor ship if its across the board. What I have a problem with is selective sensor ship. Which usually points to a narrative/agenda trying to get pushed.
The agenda is 100% the upholding of white supremacy and systematic racism.

I’m in a digital media literacy class right now, so how digital media effects policy and governance is another big topic. zuckerberg always seems posted up in Congress doing some shyt, for example

lol free speech utopia where people can only post positive things about God Elon and Tesla. This guy is the reason why we have to bust up big companies. If it was up to him we would be working in some Orwellian future where the technologists (ie. him, Zuckerberg) shape not only what we do with our lives but also our very thoughts, and we're censored from sharing what we think about anything. Scary type of guy to have the amount of power and money that he has and I hope the hammer gets brought down on him, Zuck and all these other crazies.

I dont get it they not gonna let him buy twitter outright, he has enough money to build his own :manny: fukk it

he doesn't want to build one because it'll predictably be filled with majority alt-right/racists users. he wants the platform with a diverse set of users including celebrities and politicians who wouldn't sully their brand by joining a site with a overwhelming userbase like that.

What would happen if you sent a company wide email at Telsa calling Musk a fakkit?
Exactly :mjlol:

Yes, they do ban you.
Its actually in the Terms of Service on Gab and Trumps new social media site that you cant talk bad about the Republican party.

I am sick of these free speech absolutists. For someone who'd I'd assume would have more insight into humanity as a whole, Elon is a very silly minded individual. Humanity doesn't have the moral nor cognitive development for what Elon wants.

We've already seen a glimpse of what unlimited free speech can do to human society. It brought us Donald Trump, incels, COVID 19 conspiracies, Q-Anon, continued climate change denial, continued Republican/Far-Right information silos etc. All the worse elements of human toxicity is magnified and leads to terrible outcomes by these social media platforms.

s.
And all of that took place on these same sites under this same system. So whats gonna be different?
