Don't even debate the argument there is not enough local talent because it's a fukking lie. The current market, at least in tech, is absolute doo doo and I see new grads to 10+ YOE complaining about filling out 100 apps getting 2 call backs and no offers.
There is plenty of local talent. The issue is that American workers can't be exploited like an H1B visa guy can. You can make the H1B worker work 60 to 80 hours a week, including weekends, pay him less, and lord his visa over his head with the threat of revoking it at any time which means he is heavily coerced to capitualate to employer demands. They aren't going to dare unionize or complain like a spoiled American would. This sounds like hell to the American but even with these demands and pay these Indians still see it as an advantage over what they can get in India. Indians will tell you before anyone, avoid working for another Indian as they are awful.

Higher education price tag was meant to keep the 'undesirables' out of higher education, and they want ALL students to be like Tony Stark, working 80 hours ago week for a mailman's salary. The juice is not worth the squeeze, especially on an unregulated industry where layoffs are commonplace and conmen like Elon are calling the shots.
I hate to break it to you but American society is in peak anti intellectualism era as far as the masses. With all this free knowledge. The barrier is not cost of entry. A lot of people don't have the foundation from grade school for higher learning. They've been failing upwards all their life.
In reality you will compete with someone that has prioritized learning all their life.. that's about motivation. It's gonna be tough for people to accept that the west backsliding in world rankings has them also to blame as far as the falling education standards which are directly fostering the stupidity gripping the masses. Learning has never been more free and accessible in modern society. It's just not a priority

In IT, the average worker is a fraud...Once you understand the landscape you will understand why outsourcing and H1B workers make MUCH more sense than hiring domestic workers.
I'd say 90% of big tech is filled with frauds who lie on their resume, lie about experience, google everything, barely get anything done and now use GenAI to basically do their work for them. I'm not even exaggerating, I do a shyt ton of interviews for supposedly top level talent and these MFs usually suck. And because they are all fraudulent, they are highly replaceable. So considering all that, which would you rather have...
Fraud from India on an H1B who takes the first offer he gets, will work in the office no questions asked, will work 12 hour days, works holidays, wild on call shifts, will take the bare minimum when it comes to bonus, and there is literally a pool of a million of these dusty MFs to draw from.
Fraud in the US who requires 40% more salary, wants to negotiate WFH, relocation fees, bonus structures, RSUs, yearly raises and still outputs the same shyt work as everyone else.
