Two dudes that kind of stay in there own lane/act as loaners with the rap shyt. Big respect for each other though, both were tight with Proof and met each other through him. They go all of the way back to the hip hop shop days. El has some interviews out there taking about their relationship. They used to polly/kick it every so often in the past. A collab is overdue imo. Probably need someone like Royce to put that together. Due to the reclusiveness. Probably would've happened at some point had Proof lived.

Elzhi actually reached out to Lupe about doing a collabo on Twitter if I recall correctly. I actually saw the tweet on a thread on here a couple years ago

that being said, Lupe in interviews has said he doesn't like hopping on tracks where nikkas might wash him.

I just feel like his old shyt knocked harder, and the first time I heard it I was pretty much mind blown.

Its all good, I could see your point on that. I was the same way.

What breh is doing with the jazz element/and live instrumentation aspect in his later work is what has me in my beliefs (big jazz head right here). He can still give you those bangers (i.e Sunday's Best). He would have to be in that mindstate for an entire project imo, otherwise we get his experimental stuff, thats where I think he's improved at the most, the cohesiveness, he's mastered it.

Cats sleepin on his rhymes at this point, breh is one of the best emcees in the game, you cant get on tracks/hold your own with Royce, eLZHI, Sean Price, Guilty, Danny and etc and not be checked for rhymes.

Yea, at this point I got Black Milk on my top 3 most underrated emcees in the game at this point. I think I prefer his rhyming over his production these days. I really appreciate what he's doing with live instrumentation and bringing in good musicians to help with the production, and there's no question he's a better producer now, but I do kind of miss the simple days of him with just getting busy with the pads on an MPC. On the flip side, lyrically and flow/cadence wise he's in another stratosphere from his early work, and I prefer his newer era rhymes.

@NoHateLeftBehind l'm glad you like Tronic so much. It might be my personal favorite Black Milk album and a lot of people sleep on it or don't like the more electronic style on there. That's probably my favorite middle-point of his production and rhymes advancing without going way too heavy on the live-instrumentation side of things. Plus, Sean Price, Monch, and Royce crush the features.

I grew up in a jazz household listening to Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, etc and my stepdad is a jazz pianist in DC. it's in my blood. I played trumpet and trombone in Jazz band in high school.

for me tho, with Black, this is akin to the way i felt about the way Tanya Morgan's sound changed. they were making solid, classic, meat and potatoes hip hop. Brooklynatti, Moonlighting, The Sandwich Shop, You and What Army, just dope dope shyt.

Tanya Morgan is a great point. I think with Black the sound expansion combined with all of the world travel has just helped dude segway into that multi-faceted artist/producer category . Always tinkering with that creative edge. He might be one of those guys like Herbie Hancock that ends up with a massive catalog full of stuff, signature AND left field. I'd like to see him comeback to a more traditional soundscape. It seemed like the Random Axe group kept him grounded in that aspect (rip Sean P). Thats one reason Id like to see a project with him, Royce and Elzhi.

Im glad you pointed that out with the Roots as well, definite facts I dont hear too many people mentioning . It only makes we wonder what could have happened if prime Slum Village could've blew up when they initially dropped..

There is a lot of Dilla in Black too, where I think some of his own expansion rubbed off on the student. Im actually pro beat machines and etc > Live Instrumentation myself overall. The sample is king to me. I played the sax myself (not as fluent as you with the trombone and trumpet though), but enjoy when that marriage of live instrumentation and sampling is executed to the point of
