Beats sound like they were made in 97 and not in a good way. Chic needs to work on her mixing cause all these beats sound like they were ripped off soundcloud. I can see the potential cause some of the flips and melodies are nice. But the drums just got that cheap feel to em. "Compassion" is the dopest track but the drums still sound flushed out. Snare and kicks are flat as hell.
But ay if you're feeling it that's cool. Not everybody is gonna agree. Elzhi's last joint was WAY better. And he's still rhyming his ass off on this one but the production just don't match his energy. That's my opinion

As someone's who's dad used to play isn't she lovely. This was her version for her baby girl..and I met her when she was getting lit at the bar on some Macy gray vibe unappreciated.
But my original stuff with her was the lo mein days. Tab now with wiz khalifa. Bought his cd also for five dollars. There was Claude with dirty water who died. I worked with him at the Italian restaurant in silver spring..was like wtf you doing here. He quit after two weeks. Mustafa was a beast. D'Angelo vibes. Raheem was the star and had just signed to jive but was with that duke Ellington crowd. Georgia was just passing through. And her pianist was this cool dude. The name was funny. I might be mistaken don't know if they were the worth nothing's yet. Pretty face was this crowd draw. Ugly nikka but funny as shyt. To this day I still remember this thing where he was like heeeey you fukked up pretty badly. When you called out his naaaame! And all the women fake fainting with handkerchiefs out yelling out preeety faaaace
It's a beautiful thing..I'm grateful. Sometimes in my youth trying to find my way an not there yet thought I missed out on a lot but I lived.. I just need to reconcile everything.

She comes from a different genre so it's understandable why her drums don't slap. Maybe she wants to let the music take the spotlight. But this is hip-hop and I think you gotta match the energy of the artist. And I don't think she did that. Like I said. I like what she's doing musically. If the drums were mixed better this could actually be a great album. But overall the beats just sound cheap. Nothing on this album even comes close to this shyt

Smdh. It seem you had a preconceived view but for me Beat sounds far from cheap breh. And I won't compare nor argue as their they own stand alone projects But I'm moving along and enjoying this album. Bro. No dis.

As far as the bold, have you ever heard roses by mos def? It wasnt his track initially
But the fact that this is some band shyt explains the dullness of some of the drums to me. I usually never feel these rapper/live band collabs like that. Same with commons last shyt. There’s always something that feels out of sync. That’s why the roots are so legendary. They were able to capture that perfect hip-hop feel. But it helped that they were all hip hop heads.
even ghostface who’s my personal GOAT I wasn’t super huge on his live band shyt. I’m just always gonna prefer dope sample chops over hard drums
But re-listening to this I’m feeling a couple more tracks. Prolly not as bad as I thought on first listen. Still wouldn’t put it up there with his last two but this is cool for just an easy listen.
