my personal opinion.. I grew up hearing MMLP first I like it more..
Simple: Very talented MC that lacks musicality.
It's why you would see a rapper or a group pair up with a producer and kind of stick with them for their projects. The people that handled that side of things for Em aren't in the picture and it shows in his lack of musical direction.
He'd be better off just rapping over his own beats than get a beat or two from people like Alex Da Kid. He's going to be able to rap his ass off til he dies, but he's not a musician. If I'm at working at Interscope I'm trying to pair him with Kendrick and let him EP and handle the soundscape.
TBH I Think Eminem should just produce his shyt. He produced a lot of good stuff during the 2000-2002 era. If he took note from other great producers from this decade, then I'd reckon he can make some killer beats.
The best song on his new album is on his beat.
I'd rather hear an album of him over his own tracks than a bunch of mix and match shyt.
Encore is also underated as fukk. Don't understand the hate that album gets.
Are you talking about the song Believe?
You see here's what I think. I think Eminem rapping style, flow, voice was at his best on mmlp. But I think the Eminem show was his best musically album. Its aged far better for the most part. Mmlp is him dissing a lot of dated pop stars who were popular at the time
You are so right. Didn't think about it like that. I totally agreeMMLP was not about him dissing popstars...
I think people who say Eminem don't have a classic album or he was just a gimmick don't get the climate Eminem came up in...
It was after Pac and Biggie died, people were viewing rap as this violent destructive medium...
Marylin Manson came out and had scared the shyt out of White people all over America
GTA 3 came out...which was higly controversial
And Columbine happened...
Eminem on MMLP and the Eminem Show was a response to his success off of SSLP and was response to White America about his content...
MMLP only got one song on it that is even similar to the cartoony, zanny content of SSLP and that's the Real Slim Shady and I Am Back
Then there was The Way I Am, Who Knew, Stan, Marshall Mathers and Criminal that were exact responses to his critics and detractor...
If you go back and listen to MMLP and even look at news debates around that and the coverage of things like school shootings, video games....MMLP was a very personal and political album...and was the foundation of the Eminem Show...which was even less like SSLP
Eminem's prime run was mostly about responses to his critics of SSLP, Hip Hop, race, violence and provocative speech
You are so right. Didn't think about it like that. I totally agree
First off, I'm not just being a stan because I have him as my profile picture. I have receipts + can prove why he's better than 90% of the rappers yall stan. He can also produce hits.
Not only that, he can at least partially relate to the struggles of Black people.
He wrote this after he got fired, three days before Christmas. He had less than 40 dollars in his bank account. Could barely afford to feed his daughter. Much respect.
Anyways let's talk about this rest of his music.
Personally, I don't really like SSLP too much, not a fan of the production. But MMLP? TES? Fantastic albums. Not classics but they got a lot of great tracks. At least 10 great songs in each album
Dude can also produce an absolute banger when he wants to
Classic bridge + AMAZING Eminem verse. Gave me chills down my spine.
He also knows how to hop on great beats like this. His flow is amazing for the most part
Even tho every single album post 2002 has been trash, he always has a few gems in each of his albums except MMLP2 and Revival.
Living Legend.

nobody has ever doubted his skill
he has the ability and has several classic songs but never made a classic album IMO
The Eminem Show is the closest I guess
