thats why i dont get definitions from rappers... the 80s to now it DID & DOES mean that where im from, many other places too..... off top & often DOES have subject matter (kick a freestyle about gettin chicks)... we never had a set name for off topic/brag rap, closest was just spittin...
if a dude said kick a freestyle & you spit a written you got clowned, when eyedea won battles they called it real freestyle battlin, wayne mentioned rappers stoppin him on the street & challengin him to freestyle battles, if people couldnt go off top they said "i dont freestyle," i watched a interview when i was younger where a big ny rapper (think it was krs but might be wrong) said if a dude couldnt freestyle, meaning off top, he wasnt a real mc, etc....
