Excellent point.Problem is their is a franchise called the Reds.
After all, North American professional sports has always had a strict policy of not having shared franchise names across leagues.

Man, there's more than you'd think.

At the moment, NY Rangers/Texas Rangers; Arizona Cardinals/St. Louis Cardinals; NY Giants/San Francisco Giants; LA Kings/Sacramento Kings; NY Jets/Winnipeg Jets. Other recent examples include the Houston/Edmonton Oilers.
To be fair, you actually do have a good point because it's a much less common phenomenon in modern professional sports. Back in the day, it was more of a tradition that all sports teams in one city/region would share the same name, e.g. St. Louis used to have what is now the Arizona Cardinals, which of course matched their MLB franchise.
Anyway, I would like to believe that wouldn't have a measurable impact on this process. But what do I know![]()

Not sure who is named after one another, but the Jets, Rangers, and Kings both have team names in two sports.
This is a horrible idea btw. The red gotta go, the skins gotta go, and of COURSE the logo has to go.
