They are usually counted separately because a lot of college fans arent NFL fans and vice versa.

WNBA is basketball but would you count those fans when talking about the popularity of pro basketball in the US?

Even if you combined the different levels soccer is till behind football, basketball, baseball, and Nascar, easily.
